naughtone is a furniture design, manufacture and sales business based in Yorkshire, with showrooms in London, Chicago and West Yorkshire. We design the majority of our products in house and manufacture our upholstery products in our factory in Elland, West Yorkshire.

This is an exciting time to join an already well-respected British company as a Buyer based at our HQ in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.

The Role:

This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to drive the growth of naughtone. This role will be suitable for an experienced Buying Assistant who is ready to take a step up or for an existing Buyer looking for a new challenge.

The ideal candidate will have good communication skills with the ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders to achieve the best results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio of suppliers
  • Supporting the purchasing function with full supply portfolio as and when required
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure future availability of goods in the right volumes at the right price
  • Purchase direct goods for selected categories to correct specification
  • Supporting the Supplier Development Manager
  • Complete RFI’s/ RFQ’s and successfully negotiate agreements/ contracts
  • Complete full end to end tender process
  • Analyse spend data, identifying initiatives for tender projects
  • Audit, review and interact with suppliers on a regular basis
  • Review and maintain contracts for all relevant category agreements
  • Review spend, across the business, and report back to Supplier Development Manager with proposals for improvements.
  • Work with Key Stakeholders to increase governance around purchasing function
  • Produce monthly KPI’s to show evidence of both savings and improvement within supplier performance
  • To thoroughly understand stock levels to be able to control and manage internal stocks and to create demand for internal manufacturing and external suppliers

Who we’re looking for:

  • Initiative, drive and problem-solving capabilities are the key characteristics needed for this role
  • A proven track record in a Buying Assistant, Trading Assistant or Buyer role
  • To be able to work to tight deadlines and a number of category critical paths
  • Ability to plan and liaise with core stakeholders
  • The ability to manage and influence a supplier base
  • The ability to negotiate effectively
  • Strong analytical abilities and sound commercial awareness
  • I.T. literate
  • Attention to detail
  • Previous experience using NAV or similar ERP system essential
  • Able to develop and contribute within a growing organisation
  • Self-starting and organised with strong communication skills

Education and experience:

The successful candidate would ideally be educated to degree level, preferably in business or a Maths / Finance related subject and will have at least 3 years proven purchasing experience, preferably gained in a similar sector.

You must also be able to demonstrate strong negotiation skills along with the ability to interpret and understand current market conditions.

You will also bring a technical and commercial insight to the role with an operational and hands-on approach.
