The Supervisor will lead & manage the workflow across production ensuring all pieces are prepared to the correct specification, ensuring production targets are achieved to meet the business demands of on-time-in-full (OTIF) delivery to our customers with the highest possible quality standards.

The Supervisor will be responsible for supervising day-to-day activities & team development as well as effective planning, organisation & delivery of production in line with the core metrics of Safety, Quality, Productivity & Reliability.

Responsibilities / Key Deliverables

  • Responsible for spending most of the time directly on the shop floor where the key value-added activities take place, to understand the current state of production and gain direct input from colleagues in order to make improvements.
  • Responsible for motivating and involving colleagues in improving processes through creativity, problem solving and learning.
    • Solicit ideas for improvement and create a work environment where colleagues are encouraged to take risks and share their ideas for improvement as well as, participating in the implementation of improvements through day-by-day kaizen.
  • Quality: Ensure the team’s performance and accountability to achieve production targets to the highest possible quality standards.
  • Must partner effectively with the Quality Manager to identify quality issues and their root cause, as well as implementing appropriate solutions.
  • Safety: Ensure a safe working environment for all colleagues and visitors.
    • Responsible for ensuring all safety training & development is completed for all colleagues.
    • Monitor the achievement of business & site specific environmental goals
    • Ensure that all site Health & Safety policies and procedures are followed by all colleagues.
    • Train, coach & monitor the team in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) & Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), including new colleagues & agency worker inductions and Tool Box Talks.
  • Hold 1st stage discussions with colleagues who are failing to comply with expectations or policies and raise issues accordingly
  • Ensure daily briefs are handled effectively with queries being addresses in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the highest standards of housekeeping are maintained
  • Undertake safety inspections & risk assessment monitoring as required
  • Ensure compliance with environmental policies, systems, and processes in accordance with ISO 14001 & FSC certifications and compliance; supports the audit process.
  • Maintain control of waste streams, segregation, and recycling.
  • Support the Factory Manager with the delivery of production schedules to ensure daily & weekly plans are met, in addition to any administrative duties to ensure daily KPI performance is achieved.
  • Deputise for the Factory Manager as requested or required.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE passes which must include Maths & English
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in manufacturing/production, including an understanding of warehousing/logistics.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and experience with MS Dynamics NAV preferred
  • Thorough understanding of H&S issues relevant to a factory
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean / 6 Sigma manufacturing processes and Kanban Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have the ability and willingness to motivate a team and to develop a positive team culture
  • Effectively communicates with colleagues to always ensure the best working relationships
  • Motivates and develops colleagues by setting the right example and coaches team members to achieve team and personal goals
  • Confidently supervises colleagues by setting targets and providing honest feedback
  • Can handle issues with compassion and empathy when communicating expectations to team members
  • Confidently able and willing to deal with minor issues as the first line supervisor to prevent such issues being escalated to the Factory Manager whilst understanding when to escalate employee concerns or issues to ensure they are dealt with appropriately
  • Ability to understand the operational issues that can arise on a day-to-day basis and can work collaboratively with others to ensure a successful resolution
  • Must be prepared to undertake roles across the whole site
  • Must be prepared to take accountability for the delivery of agreed results

Dimension of role

Based from the NaughtOne Production Factory in Elland, this is a full-time permanent position reporting directly to the Factory Manager; working hours being Monday to Thursday 7am – 4pm and Friday 7am to 1pm.
The role holder will be regularly liaising with other departments and colleagues across the site and the wider business to ensure work is completed on time and in full to the highest standards.
