The Technical Pattern Cutter plays a critical role in transforming creative upholstery designs into precise, production-ready technical patterns. Working closely with the Upholstery Development Manager and cross-functional teams, this position ensures new products are accurately developed, digitised and handed over to manufacturing for efficient, high-quality production.

 

Responsibilities / Key Deliverables

  • Translate design briefs and technical specifications into accurate prototypes through cutting, sewing, and upholstery techniques.
  • Develop and digitize production-ready patterns, including grading and technical details (notches, seam allowances, pile direction) using Accumark.
  • Participate in product reviews, responding quickly to feedback and implementing modifications.
  • Create optimised fabric markers to maximize material efficiency.
  • Train and support production teams on new developments; contribute to SOP documentation.
  • Provide pattern expertise to Continuous Improvement and Quality teams.
  • Collaborate with localisation teams to ensure smooth handover of new developments to 3rd party suppliers.
  • Enhance pattern and material knowledge within the Upholstery Development team.

 

Core Competencies

  • 3–5 years’ experience in pattern development, ideally gained in upholstery, automotive trim or fashion / tailoring.
  • Proven ability to cut and sew woven fabrics, leather and vinyl materials.
  • Strong interpretation skills from design to pattern, with an eye for scale and proportion.
  • Proficient in digitizing patterns and using Accumark, along with MS Office tools.
  • Confident in supporting production teams through new product launches and post-handover adjustments.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving ability and clear communication skills.
  • Collaborative and open to constructive feedback; able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects independently and deliver to tight deadlines.

 

Dimension of role

Reporting to the Upholstery Development Manager with time split between the NaughtOne production factory and the Head Office, this role is pivotal in introducing new upholstered designs into production. It requires close collaboration with Engineering, Product Development and Production teams to ensure seamless integration of new products into manufacturing processes.
