Northeastern University’s London campus was designed to offer students a calm, focused environment within the heart of the city. The interior needed to reflect the university’s progressive approach to learning while offering practical spaces for individual study and quiet collaboration.
The design team wanted furniture that would support independent learning, reduce distractions, and create soft boundaries without the need for walls or partitions. Pullman was chosen to deliver privacy, comfort, and visual appeal in equal measure.
Creating pockets of privacy in an open-plan setting is always a challenge—especially in academic spaces where students need to concentrate for extended periods. The seating solution needed to provide acoustic support, visual separation, and comfort without compromising on space or flexibility. The team also needed a solution that would blend into the architecture of the building while reinforcing the thoughtful, modern atmosphere of the university.
The Pullman Chair was a natural fit. Its high-back design and enclosed sides offer students a sense of personal space, helping reduce distractions in shared environments. Built-in acoustic properties help create a quieter atmosphere, while the compact footprint ensures space efficiency. With its clean lines and residential feel, Pullman adds warmth and character to the campus, creating focused zones that support student wellbeing and productivity.
Ideal for flexible working environments, the Pullman Chair delivers privacy and comfort with a modern touch to open plan spaces—from busy offices to university communal areas. Position the chair alone for independent work or place chairs together for small group collaboration. The Pullman’s high back, upholstered body, and foam construction help provide a level of acoustic comfort needed for focused work without distractions or a quiet retreat. Specifying a swivelling plinth base allows the user to turn more inward, adding an extra level of privacy.
