Young Furniture Makers – Design Award

The Young Furniture Makers Exhibition, co-sponsored by NaughtOne, Celtheath and Axminster Tools, connects young, creative designer-makers who are looking to make an impact on the sector, with employees and key players in the furniture industry.

The event, which will be held at Furniture Makers’ Hall and the Dutch Church in Austin Friars in London on Wednesday 11th October this year, showcases the very best furniture and furnishing design talent from GCSE students to recent graduates. More than 70 young designers and graduates from schools, colleges and universities around the UK will exhibit designs at the event to be in with the chance of winning one of several highly competitive awards and prizes which exemplify excellence and the future in design.

The Design Award, also sponsored by NaughtOne, will be presented in recognition of the highest standard in the design of furniture for a piece or range which is intended for volume production. The shortlisted submissions will be judged by an expert panel, including NaughtOne’s Head of Design and Engineering, Paul Salem.

Over the course of five days, the Design Award winner will spend time with a designer at NaughtOne’s London showroom, learn to make their own Pinch stool at the manufacturing facility in Elland, Halifax, and spend time with NaughtOne’s sustainability and design teams in Harrogate. There will also be prizes awarded to the second and third place winners.

“We’re thrilled to sponsor the Young Furniture Makers’ Exhibition and Design Award. We have a heritage in craft and upholstery and supporting new talent in our industry is incredibly important to us. We’re excited to see the exceptional flair and creativity presented at the exhibition later this month”, says NaughtOne Managing Director, Nadean McNaught.
