At NaughtOne we care deeply about upholstery. It’s a craft with centuries of heritage – especially in our home region of Yorkshire in the UK. Accurate, skilful cutting and sewing are as important today as they have ever been.
But we don’t only care about tradition. We’re always trying to come up with new, innovative ways to do things, and the Truffle Pouf embodies this restlessness. Beneath its shapely exterior, it hides some sophisticated upholstery problem-solving.
Good upholstery is purposeful, so we were careful to make sure that Truffle’s upholstery enhanced it both functionally and aesthetically. The foam core and the material are designed to interact with one another, holding each other in place through a carefully calibrated tension which is achieved through precise seam placement. The cover is made from a single piece of upholstery cut in a flower shape. It is sewn without flies or extrusions ensuring a tailored fit that emphasises the sculptural form and creates neat contours. The absence of a drum-like seam around the top of the pouf delivers a satisfyingly smooth sit.
With every new product we take time to design the upholstery with choice in mind. Regardless of which fabric the client specifies, performance has to be consistent, so during product development we make our pieces with many different materials, adjusting, adapting and perfecting as we go. Whether specified in a woven fabric, felt or leather, the cover will behave in the same way. That’s not an easy thing to achieve but it’s vitally important that our customers can trust in consistency.
Why does this matter? Because when you hunt down a Truffle, you’re not only specifying a useful, beautiful piece of contract furniture. You’re also picking up a piece of upholstery excellence.
