Finnair Business Lounge, Helsinki Airport
KT Interior Oy helped the interior architects of the new Finnair Schengen Business Lounge in Helsinki-Vantaa airport provide contemporary custom-made NaughtOne Pullman chairs for business passengers.
Finnair required a furniture solution that offered their busy business travellers personal calming cocoons that dial down distraction, enabling them to concentrate amid the hustle and bustle of a busy airport.
The solution would need to be comfortable, stylish, sustainable and of the highest quality in order to withstand the heavy use 24/7, 365 days a year.
Previously, the seating for Finnair’s business customers featured an integrated reading light which was appreciated by users. However, when the lamps broke or malfunctioned, the entire chair had to be replaced which was neither economical or sustainable. Joanna Laajisto Creative Studio Oy, the new Business Lounge’s interior architects, needed a more future-facing, practical and sustainable solution that was entirely bespoke to their specifications.
The interior architects tasked furniture and lighting specialist KT Interior Oy with finding the perfect seating solution. The specifications included precise dimensions, the inclusion of sockets and a reading light – plus it was to be upholstered in a fabric selected by the designer. It immediately became apparent that only a customised solution would tick every box.
KT Interior Oy approached NaughtOne knowing that we had innovative products and the expertise to tailor our products to Finnair’s passengers’ needs. They worked together with our expert product designers to create a new version of our Pullman chair with a reading light from Leds-C4 integrated into the high back of the chair. We also routed the lamp’s power cable through the structure of the chair, building in a power socket for laptops and devices. This meant only one cable was required to power both the light and the socket. The light itself was designed to enable easy repair if it ever failed
Parking the distinctive aesthetics and acoustic properties to one side, high quality, usability and sustainability were three other key reasons why our high-backed Pullman chairs were selected. Made from 23.2% recycled, 15.7% recyclable and 71.3% reusable materials, these chairs embodied KT Interior’s values and helped their clients meet sustainability standards. The 10-year warranty and rigorous testing and surpassing of certification requirements also made the choice easy for the client.
Pirre Niilijärvi-Kekkonen, Workspace Specialist, Furniture Sales at KT Interior Oy, commented: “We worked well together and received excellent help and support from both the sales and product development teams. Alongside our NaughtOne contact, Marck Lyngo, we met the end customer at our showroom and convinced them about NaughtOne’s products and operations. We were in close cooperation with the Product Development Team, including Product Designer Josh Davies and Client Delivery Manager Carla Hagan. They provided detailed drawings for the interior architects to approve, as well as renders of the products in the test installation phase.”
